Jub Jub rose to national prominence with his popular Xhosa gospel song, Ndikhokhele Bawo, which translates to “Guide me, Father” in English. The public’s reaction to Jub Jub songs has been enthusiastic from the beginning. The first of many excellent songs he would release, his debut album THE RARE BREED, was published in 2006, and South Africans couldn’t get enough of him.

Jub Jub and his companion Themba Tshabalala were charged on March 8, 2010, with causing an accident while racing while under the influence of strong drugs. The course of the race was a public roadway. Two of the children sustained severe head injuries that resulted in neurological damage, while four children from a nearby school lost their lives.
Jub Jub and his friend were sentenced to 25 years in prison each on December 5, 2012, for three linked felonies and attempted murder. On February 7, 2014, the court heard the two’s appeal of the decision. Their murder conviction was upheld on October 8 of that year by a Johannesburg high court as responsible homicide. In 2012, their sentence was shortened to ten years. Jub Jub and his friend were freed from prison on parole in 2017 after spending little over four years behind bars.
