Campus Opened at Eastern Province by CBU

Eastern Province Permanent Secretary, Dr Buleti Nsemukila, has Commended the Copperbelt University for expressing interest in extending the much-needed educational needs to Eastern province.

Dr Nsemukila said having the University’s presence in the Province is a clear indication of Governments continued effort to provide quality education to all Zambians.

He was speaking when a team of staff from the Copperbelt University, CBU, led by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Naison Ngoma, called on him at his office in Chipata.

Dr. Nsemukila further applauded the Copperbelt University for its practical engagements in the energy sector and urged the higher leaning institution to explore the province in areas of energy.

And Professor Ngoma said the university is working towards having its presence across the country.

“We are here to bring education closer and make it accessible to all Zambians especially those in employment and would want to further their education through practical modes of study such as distance education and open learning.” He Said

Professor Ngoma added that the Eastern is a good place to expand its distance education in aquaculture, agro-forest and general education, considering that most students pursuing distance education at the institution come from the region.

And acting Director of Distance Education and open learning Dr Donald Chingu said the University has partnered with government to enforce its pronouncement of diploma as the minimum qualifications for teachers to practice.

“Our programmes are offered through flexible mode of study were residential is conducted during school. In this manner, teachers will not be away from duty.”  He said.

And Eastern Provincial Education officer Dr Allan Lingambe welcomed the move by CBU to open a center in the province.

Dr Lingambe urged CBU to focus on programmes in Agriculture Science and Information and Communication Technology with education as the province has a high shortage of teachers in this field.

The CBU team comprising of the Acting Director of Distance Education and Open Learning Dr Donald Chungu, Coordinator of Academic Programmes Mr Wezi Mapala and Public Relations Officer Christabel Malama also visited Lundazi district and set up a focal point for Lundazi, Chama, Chipangali and Lumezi districts and another focal point in Chipata district to cater for clients across the province.

The team lead by Dr Chungu held talks with stakeholders in a bid to secure infrastructure for the center.
