She has been a house name since her debut on television as she acted on quite a number of television shows such as Home Affairs, City Sesla, Death of a Queen, Rhythm City and many more.

Early and Personal Life of Serunye

Elizabeth Serunye was born on 12 March 1971 in Limpopo Province in South Africa. She was a lead singer in high school but later realized she was born to become an actor after metric. A career in acting wasn’t easy for her at the beginning and she spent many years looking for stable acting gigs.

She even ended up working at a Supermarket before she got her first huge break with Soul City in 2006. The star knew from childhood that she was born to entertain but unlucky enough to crack it at young age.

Acting career

After metric Elizabeth chose to follow a career in acting and she struggled to get acting gigs. She got her first gig at the age of 23, this was on a Sesotho drama called Dinnete tsa Bophelo written by Philip Mothupi. In the mid-2000s the star acting roles in quite a number of shows including Home affairs and others. In 2005 Mrs Serunye landed herself a role on the comedy of “Mzee Wa Two Six” then she got another one on Soul City in 2006. ¹

Elizabeth Serunye portrayed comic roles and serious characters, she played Mapaseka Montsho, the tyrannical queen of the kitchen at the ‘Cherry Blossom’ guest house in the SABC2 sitcom Moferefere Lenyalong. And she combined tragic and comic as Rose Nakumba in ‘Rhythm City’, as she battled to cope with an abusive husband, Jafta Nakumba (Sandile Dlamini) and a rebellious teenager, Mampho (Itumeleng Bokaba). She landed a serious role as Principal Thobakgale on Skeem Saam on SABC 1. ²

Elizabeth’s special passion is music, especially gospel singing, she started singing in high school choir where she was a lead vocalist. She currently sings with the Exaltation Gospel Choir. ³
