Parents and guardians in Gauteng who failed to submit school applications on behalf of their children for the 2023 academic year will now have the opportunity to apply for the placement of their children. However, the application process is different to what it was during the initial application period.
The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has opened late applications for 2023 Grade 1 and Grade 8 placements. However, the department has cautioned that parents will have limited options available to them.
The late application period for Grade 1 and Grade 8 placement for the 2023 academic year opened on Tuesday, 20 December 2022. This allows parents who failed to submit online applications during the initial application period to apply for the placement of their children.
It’s important to note that only schools with available space are available for parents to choose from when submitting late applications.
Note that each parent may apply to ONE school only.
The learner will be automatically be placed at the one school their application was submitted to.
During the initial application, parents were allowed to apply to a maximum of five schools. The department then worked to place the learners at one of these schools using their placement criteria.
However, due to the limited number of places available at schools in the province, and the fact that most learners have already been placed, parents will only have limited choices for schools.
Parents will be able to apply online and immediately upload documents online. Documents not uploaded online may be hand delivered to schools from 11 to 31 January 2023.
The GDE late application period will end on Tuesday, 31 January 2023 at 00:01 AM.
