South African Army Application Form 2025-2026 | Fill Form and Apply Here

The South African Army is the army of South Africa, it was first formed after the Union of South Africa was created in 1910. The South African military evolved within the tradition of frontier warfare fought by Boer Commando (militia) forces, reinforced by the Afrikaners’ historical distrust of large standing armies.

The South African army is a professional force working for the defense of South Africa. Working for the South African army involves military training, functional training and service in uniform. To join the South African army you must be a South African citizen. There is a wide range of careers available, from infantry, and personnel to catering to engineering to intelligence. You can join the South African army by completing an application form and sending it in.

Read the full application form. Ensure you meet the personal requirements. You must be between 18 and 22 years old, but if you are a college graduate you can be up to 26 years of age. You should preferably be single, flexible to relocation and comply with South African National Defense fitness requirements.

Print and complete the application form. Send it in an envelope with your CV and your grade 12 certificate (or grade 11 results if you’re currently in grade 12) to “SANDF Recruiting, Private Bag X281, Pretoria, 001.” If your application is accepted you will have a job in the South African Army.

The SA Army also played a key role in controlling sectarian political violence inside South Africa during the late 1980s and early 1990s.

South African Army Requirements

  • SA Army will only open the application portal only on the availability of a vacant position.
  • Interested applicants will have to undergo the prescribed SANDF military health examination to know if they are medically fit.
  • The successful completion of psychometric tests and appearance before a selection board only when it is necessary for certain appointments, eg, officer’s appointments. Be guided that this will not be applicable to ex-regular members.

SA Army Selection Process.

  • Applicants that have to undergo the minimum requirements listed above will be subjected to further screening.
  • Applicants identified will, therefore, be invited to partake in a selection process.

The selection process entails the following:

Psychometric evaluation:

The aim is to assess the candidate’s aptitude and potential to develop in the position that was applied for.

The nature of these tests will depend on the position applied for.

Selection Board (formal interview):

A Selection Board will be conducted in order to assess the applicant’s interest in the position applied for, as well as his or her interest in the Defence Force in general.

The interview will also focus on self-confidence, leadership potential and communication skills.

Medical Evaluation:

A comprehensive medical evaluation will be conducted by appointed military medical practitioners in order to assess the applicant’s medical history and current medical status.

All applicants must be declared fit for military training before commencement.

Criminal Records:

The fingerprints of applicants will be sent to the Criminal Record Bureau for verification.

Records of convictions will be evaluated based on the severity thereof and how recently the offense (s) occurred.

Offer of Employment.

Successful applicants will receive an offer of employment.

Candidates who are not successful will be informed by correspondence.

It is unfortunate that not all applicants who are recommended for training will receive an offer of employment due to the large number of applications received.

If you are interested in the SA Army recruitment exercise, you will have to download the online application form and fill it or you can also fill the form online and submit it at once without stress.

How to Join the South African Army.

If you are interested in the SA Army and you wish to join them, you can do so. it is not really a big deal. All you need to do is to go to the official website and fill the online application form and wait for a notice from them to see if you have been offered employment. Successful candidates will receive a notice from the SA Army if they have been offered a job. So ensure to always check your email and SMS alert to see if you have any messages from the South African Army. Note that, not all candidates that applied for this job will be offered employment.
