About University of Pretoria 2023 Scholarship Program
The Centre for Human Rights, Faculty of Law, University of Pretoria, South Africa, is currently accepting applications for the degree in Sexual and Reproductive Rights in Africa (SRRA) for the Class of 2023.
This scholarship is intended to enrich the Centre’s Sexual Rights in Africa Programme by focusing on probing culture and/or criminalization as part of broader discourses on sexual and/or reproductive rights in the African area. The scholarships include tuition, travel, living expenses, and other charges.
Eligibility Requirements
- A Master’s Degree in law or humanities emphasizing on or closely related to sexual and/or reproductive rights
- Good written and spoken English competence
- Outstanding academic research abilities
- Interest and expertise in sexual rights must be demonstrated.
- An understanding of the African human rights framework
- The ability to operate individually as well as collectively.
Benefits
Selected candidates would be expected to live in Pretoria (South Africa) for the duration of the scholarship and contribute to the Centre’s work (for about 25 hours per week). The residency period would ideally begin in May 2023.

- Proposal of approximately 3 to 5 pages of prospective LLD/DPhil study (succinctly stating the research topic; the research question(s) to be addressed; the planned research methods/methodology; and demonstrating acquaintance with the most relevant literature)
- A sample of the candidate’s writing on sexual and/or reproductive rights
- Academic transcripts and a copy of any relevant post-graduate degree (s).
